The official process of withdrawing or revoking certification, in this case the end of Standard franking by Royal Mail.

Royal Mail announced in April 2021 that Non-Mailmark will end in 2022 and from the 1^st January 2023 only Mailmark franking will be accepted, however the ability to add funds to a Standard machine will be ceased in the period leading up to decertification.

If your machine prints the round Non-Mailmark Crown Die Indicia, as per the example above.

In the period leading up to decertification, Royal Mail have confirmed users will no longer be able to add credit to a Standard franking, making it redundant for mailing once without funds, then from January 1^st 2023 any mail sent with a round franking mark will be returned to sender. Your machine will continue to work, but any funds used on Non-Mailmark post will be wasted as the mail won’t arrive.

Mailmark was introduced in 2014 to provide the most efficient and accurate way of processing mail, along with guaranteeing the cheapest franking rate. As the majority of franked mail is now Mailmark it’s simply ensuring that all franked mail can take advantage of the automated barcode technology.

NO, in fact Mailmark guarantees the cheapest franking rate, with 2nd Class letters at 47p, compared to 55p for standard franking and 66p for stamps.

As Mailmark franking is cheaper and more efficient, it’s best to change now to take advantage of savings and avoid the worry of not being able to send your franked mail when non-Mailmark ends, or being caught with a redundant machine when Royal Mail cease the ability to add postage funds ahead of decertification.

Royal Mail have contacted every customer with a Non-Mailmark franking licence, though as some have both Mailmark and Non-Mailmark machines you may have received a letter even though you only use a Mailmark machine.
