Healthier Heroes are a Burnley-based organisation committed to overcoming social isolation, homelessness and improving mental health and wellbeing in the Veteran community. The organisation provides housing, mental health & wellbeing support, addiction recovery support and a range of other measures to help veterans who have suffered tough times get back on their feet.

Healthier Heroes was established in 2018 and is run by a husband-and-wife team who have the forces close to their heart, with MD Andrew an ex-Colour Sergeant who served for 16 years in the infantry. The organisation has won awards for services within the community, as well as successfully run leadership development programmes and Military Resilience Programmes in schools, colleges, and businesses across the northwest.

Healthier Heroes’ programme is based around three key values: to unite as one, inspire one another, and believe anything is possible. Healthier Heroes aims to rehome in-need veterans by providing supported living accommodation in Bancroft House, Burnley as well as rehabilitating and reconnecting veterans and their families regardless of whether they recently left the army or left a long time ago.

Healthier Heroes also support veterans who have left or are still in the criminal justice system and using a peer mentoring programme help them to rebuild their lives and find jobs. With the combined lived experience of the team and our person-led approach to the programme, Healthier Heroes are striving to help veterans and their families overcome barriers that restrict aspects of their lives.

The Mailing Room are proud to have recently worked with Healthier Heroes to help ease the burden of the on-going rising costs of energy bills, which has in turn allowed the organisation to keep the space warm and safe for the 21 residents housed in the building. As a result of this Healthier Heroes have also been able to continue to the incredible work they do with veterans and provide the support required to make sure they all overcome the social barriers they are all facing.

All of us at TMR are proud to have been able to support Healthier Heroes in continuing their selfless work, and if you too would like to support the team please visit them on their website (https://healthierheroescic.co.uk/) and get involved.
