Congratulations to the Sisters of the Cross and Passion, winners of the first £500 prize draw in our 20th Anniversary celebrations.
“This is great, I’d completely forgotten I’d entered, it was that simple to do!” enthuses Sister Steed upon hearing that she’d just won the £500 draw. “I’ve never won anything before, this will certainly make a difference to the sisterhood, and the flowers look lovely in our chapel during this season of joy.”
Founded in Manchester in 1852 to help the ‘voiceless, downtrodden workers’ in the large industrial towns of C19th England, the Sisters of the Cross and Passion have been based in Middleton since the 1960s. From here they help run a number of ministries and retreat centres across England and Ireland, whilst being the provincial house for 38 convents.
Probably not viewed as a typical franking machine customer, Sister Steed has been happily using her TMR d100 for many years to keep in touch with all the members of their community, associated charities, advisors, contributors and extended family of the sisterhood. All of whom are kept up-to-date with the ongoing work of the Sisters via newsletters, funding account balances, seasonal communications and family updates.
“It’s so lovely and easy to use, I send post every day with my little helper,” explains Sister Steed. “It saves so much time and money, as I don’t have to keep stamps or queue at the post office to find out the correct mail prices, the machine does it all, cheaper. I just put it all in the little red bags to drop off, which is great as the local post office closed and parking is a problem at the main one.”
The prize was awarded by their local area TMR engineer, Thomas Williams, who was happy to present the cheque to Sister Steed, as she’s always been a lovely customer to visit on annual service inspection calls. Sister Alderson and sisterhood secretary Betty Gann were on hand for the presentation, alongside Sam from TMR marketing, with the money going straight back into funding the corporate mission of the Sisters.
“This is a great surprise, I only set up the mandate to speed up paperwork, as it seemed simpler, never thinking we would win.”
